THE TIME TO ACT IS NOW

  • Latest Update

Thanks everyone for following, supporting and being part of this unique, world first adventure. We’re working hard on getting ready for launch, and are just finalizing preparations for the expedition start, over the next couple of weeks. The Flying Impifish has gone through final upgrades and testing and is ready for launch!

We’re currently in the process of now closely monitoring the weather window and waiting for the right conditions to launch, over the 25th May -15th June.

Chris has been out testing and training, ensuring all electronic, safety, logistics and communication systems are all working correctly, as he focuses on packing and preparing himself for the journey.
We are looking at two options for departure locations, Oxnard or Santa Cruz depending on which location gives us the best weather needed to get offshore, quickly, effectively and safely, over the next 3-4 weeks. The great news is that Chris knows both areas well and has tested and trained in both areas, so is familiar with all the conditions he can expect, departing from either one.

We’re excited about all the video content and updates we’ll be sharing with you throughout the journey, raising awareness on Climate Change, action, science and data being collected along the journey, we will be sharing with you all. Make sure to follow us on social media to stay posted and updated!

We can’t wait to bring you along on this journey with us.

We will be updating this main page every 7 days, until we launch.
    Thanks for all the support.

Chris & the Wing Project Team- May 20, 2022

Chris will be departing sometime over the next 3 weeks (before the 15th of June), when the weather allows us to. As soon as we know, we’ll let you know.

    THE STORY

    POWERED BY:

All funds raised during the project, from May 1st through August 15th when the project is complete, will be donated directly to our Wing Project conservation charities and partners.

    Where Your Donations Go:

Money for Conservation International goes to The Coral Conservancy, CI's community-based coral restoration efforts in Hawaii.

Money for Sea Shepherd goes to conservation efforts to protect animals, to ensure the prevention of illegal fishing, and plastic pollution.

Funds donated to The Chris Bertish Foundation are shared between the Parley Ocean School and the Two Oceans Aquarium Education Foundation in South Africa, and the SeaTrees Initiative to plant mangroves in Baja, California. Any remaining funds are used to manage the project's administration costs.

With the funds raised from last year's fundraising drive we were able to donate $1,250 to Conservation International, $1,250 to Sea Shepherd, and we planted 350 square feet of sea forest in Monterey Bay through the SeaTrees Initiative.

The Chris Bertish Foundation Team is incredibly proud to support our conservation partners and the work they do to protect our planet and oceans.

    OUR GOALS FOR GIVEBACK

This project is built to highlight climate change issues and to create awareness around Ocean Unite's 30x30 strategy to protect 30% of the Earth’s land and water resources by 2030, and achieving carbon net-zero by 2050. We want to inspire a new generation to believe that anything is possible, while giving back to people, planet and education through the following goals.

    • Raise global awareness around climate change issues
    • Shine a light on Ocean Unite's 30x30 strategy to protect 30% of the planet’s land and water resources by 2030
    • Highlight what it will take to get to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050
    • Raise money to donate to Conservation International's environmental projects
    • Run ocean classroom sessions, broadcast to thousands of children around the world
    • Collect valuable data for Conservation International and MBARI research into ocean pollution, temperature, acidity levels, and noise pollution.
    • Plant 1000 trees through the Worldview Climate Change Park
    • Pay for cleft palate surgeries for children in need through Operation Smile
    • Sponsor ocean outreach education programs for children in disadvantaged communities

The Chris Bertish Foundation has been funded since 2020 through Chris Bertish - I’mPossible to be able to build this nonprofit. All funds raised through the wing project from May 25th - August 25th will be shared between Conservation International, Sea Shepherd, and the Chris Bertish Foundation. All money through the Chris Bertish Foundation will be split to reimburse the expenses of running the project and donated to The Two Oceans Education Foundation outreach & sponsorships, Operation Smile Operations, giving books to children in need, planting trees at Heyerdahl Climate Parks, & creating live ocean classrooms. Once the wing project is complete, the Foundation will operate as usual, collaborating on beach clean ups and having Chris speak at different schools highlighting conservation and ocean health issues all around the world, and being an ambassador for positive change. We’ll continue to work with our partners, creating more impact and awareness around the world. Chris will also continue to do mentorship programs with the 9 Miles Foundation in South Africa and sponsor books and educational curriculums to disadvantaged kids in different communities.
